Smith is the literary persona of poet and essayist Harry Smith, who wishes to avoid confusion with other Smiths. He is publisher of The Smith, a small press, and the author of fourteen published books, most recently The Sexy Sixties (Birch Brook Press, 2002), essays on the 1960s, and Synesthetics/Edges of Sound (with Stanley Nelson), artistic manifestoes, dramatic experiments and poetry (Birch Brook, September 2004). Winner of PEN's Medwick Award for his editing and writing and the Small Press Center's lifetime achievement award, he is nearing completion of his Light Memoirs. Recent magazine publications include Confrontation, The Iconoclast and Prairie Schooner.
